Well, hello! Catch-up time with Social Media after being bogged down with Managing in a Complex World. Love the topic, but being a first attempt at essay writing, I'm not holding my breath ....
I was looking again at Slide Sharer and thought I'd see what social media content they had there, and came across this presentation - Global Social Media Check-up 2010.
One thing I particularly liked about the presentation was the nine points outlined under 'An Evidence Based Approach to Social Media'. What I read resonates with my understanding for any company considering entering the social media space.
I will be interested to compare these notes with the Social Media forum that I will be attending on Wednesday afternoon.
Stay tuned!

Happiness is in your own hands (or mind)
So I thought I'd google the title of my blog "If it's going to be it's up to me". Not surprisingly, the results returned a lot of self-help resources on happiness and positive psychology, as well as many Christian resources.
Following the social media theme, I've located a clip on You Tube by Henry Miller. Henry's clip, in summary, makes the following points:
The current terminology about this happiness movement is Positive Psychology.
Dr Martin Seligman is renowned as the founder of positive psychology. I've listed below some links to social media resources on positive psychology from a few different Web 2.0 applications.
Dr Seligman's homepage - Authentic Happiness

Happy, happy, joy, joy!

- Think yourself happy - what you think you become.
- Choose to be more optimistic.
- Stop focusing on the negative, particularly ruminating about events in your life.
- Build resilience.
- Savour the present.
- Intentionally act happy (smiling etc)
- Exercise, meditate, sleep, embrace spirituality.

In the beginning ...
There's only so many years one can remain static before something has to change. No, not a 'snap' - just an increasing restlessness and thoughts that there must be something more ... there must be a better way ... others can do it, so why can't I?
Self talk can be a terrible thing, especially for one with low self esteem and a lack of confidence in their God-given talents and abilities.
Hence the title of my blogspot - If it's going to be, if's up to me - (and a lot of help from above!)
Nothing will change if you don't change. No-one can do it for you. Only you can effect the change that you want to see in your life.
And here I am ...
Taking on the enormous challenge of studying so that I can prove to myself that I am capable, just like anyone else.
